WHERE TEAK COMES FROM

From South Asia. Crafted by hand.

One wood has been trusted for centuries. One craft has shaped it with care. We source directly from the forests — no shortcuts, no middlemen.

Teak forest origin

Sustainably harvested teak — one of the world's most durable natural materials

01 · THE WOOD

Teak from Southeast Asia

Grown in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, teak is naturally dense, water-resistant, and built to last generations.

02 · THE CRAFT

Shaped by skilled hands

Every utensil is carved and finished by craftspeople who have worked with teak wood for generations. No machines. No shortcuts.

03 · THE PROMISE

Sustainably sourced. Always.

Harvested responsibly, finished without chemicals, shipped directly to you. What's in your kitchen should be as natural as your food.

"My grandfather carved teak with the same tools I use today. The wood hasn't changed. Neither have we."

The difference

What you get with Teak & Grain.

Not all cutting boards are created equal. Here's why it matters what yours is made of.

Teak & Grain Others
Sustainably sourced teak
Harvested responsibly — every board traceable to its origin, not mass-produced from unknown sources
End-grain construction
Knife edges slide between wood fibres instead of cutting across them — the surface self-heals, protecting both board and blade
Naturally antimicrobial surface
Teak's natural oils inhibit bacterial growth. Plastic and silicone boards develop deep knife grooves that trap bacteria and are nearly impossible to clean
No microplastics in your food
Every cut on a plastic board sheds microplastics directly onto your food. Teak is 100% natural — nothing ends up on your plate that shouldn't be there
Built to last decades
Plastic boards warp, stain, and need replacing every few years. A properly maintained teak board is a one-time purchase that outlasts everything else in your kitchen
30-day risk-free trial
Try it in your kitchen for 30 days. Full refund if you're not convinced — no questions, no hassle
PLASTIC BOARD TEAK & GRAIN

Illustrative cross-section. Plastic grooves harbour bacteria; teak end-grain fibres close after each cut.

What it fixes

What lives in your
cutting board.
You'd be surprised.

Plastic boards look clean. But every cut leaves a groove — and grooves are where bacteria hide, multiply, and resist scrubbing. Teak end-grain is different. The fibres close back up after each cut, leaving nowhere for bacteria to live.

Self-healing surface
End-grain fibres flex apart for the blade, then close back up — no permanent grooves, no place for bacteria to hide.
Naturally antibacterial
Teak's natural oils actively inhibit bacterial growth — no chemicals needed, no coatings that wash off over time.
No microplastics
Every cut on a plastic board sheds microplastics onto your food. Teak is 100% natural — nothing on your plate that shouldn't be.
Easier to keep clean
A quick hand wash is all it takes. No hiding places for last night's chicken. Just wood, water, and done.

Care guide

A board that lasts a lifetime.
If you treat it like one.

Teak is one of the most resilient woods on earth. A little care goes a long way — here's everything you need to know.

Step 01
Rinse after each use
Warm water and mild dish soap. Wash by hand — never in the dishwasher. Dry immediately, don't let it soak.
Step 02
Air dry standing upright
Never lay it flat while wet. Stand it on its edge so both sides dry evenly — this prevents warping over time.
Step 03
Oil once a month
Apply food-grade mineral oil with a soft cloth. Let it soak in for 20 minutes, then wipe away any excess.
Step 04
Store in a dry place
Keep it away from direct heat like stovetops or radiators. A cool, dry kitchen counter is perfect.
Never do this
  • Put it in the dishwasher
  • Soak it in water or leave it wet
  • Place near a stove, oven, or radiator
  • Use olive or vegetable oil — they go rancid
Always do this
  • Hand wash with mild soap after every use
  • Dry upright so both sides breathe evenly
  • Oil monthly with food-grade mineral oil
  • Sand lightly with fine grit if deep scratches appear

New board tip: Oil your board 3–4 times in the first week before using it. This initial conditioning seals the wood and sets it up for years of daily use without cracking.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know before — and after — you order.

01 Which size should I choose — Medium or Large?
The Medium (34×24×2.5 cm) is perfect for everyday prep — vegetables, fruit, bread, and solo or couple cooking. The Large (42×30×2.5 cm) is ideal if you cook for a family, regularly work with whole cuts of meat, or just like extra room. When in doubt, most customers who go Medium wish they went Large.
02 Can I put it in the dishwasher?
No — and this is important. The dishwasher will ruin any wood cutting board, including teak. The heat and prolonged moisture exposure causes the wood to crack, warp, and split over time. Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, dry immediately, and it'll last you decades.
03 How often do I need to oil it?
Once a month is enough for regular use. When your board first arrives, oil it 3–4 times in the first week to condition the wood before use. Use food-grade mineral oil or a dedicated board cream — never olive or vegetable oil, which go rancid inside the wood.
04 Is teak actually safer than plastic for food prep?
Yes — and the science backs it up. Plastic boards develop deep knife grooves over time that trap bacteria and are nearly impossible to scrub clean. Teak's end-grain fibres close back up after each cut, and its natural oils actively inhibit bacterial growth. Plus, plastic boards shed microplastics directly onto your food with every cut — teak doesn't.
05 Will it damage my knives?
End-grain teak is actually one of the most knife-friendly surfaces you can cut on. The end-grain orientation means blade edges slide between the wood fibres rather than scraping across them — which significantly reduces dulling compared to plastic, bamboo, or face-grain wood boards. Your knives will thank you.
06 What does "sustainably sourced" actually mean?
Our teak is sourced from responsibly managed plantations — not old-growth forests. Plantation teak is grown specifically for harvest, which means no deforestation and a fully replenishable supply. Every board comes from wood that was grown with its end use in mind.
07 How does the 30-day trial work?
Use it in your kitchen for 30 days — actually cook with it, chop on it, oil it. If you're not completely satisfied for any reason, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we'll arrange a free return and issue a full refund. No questions, no restocking fees, no hassle.
08 My board has developed some scratches — is that normal?
Completely normal — and easily fixed. Fine surface marks are part of using a real wood board. If scratches bother you, lightly sand the surface with 220-grit sandpaper, wipe away the dust, and apply a fresh coat of mineral oil. It'll look nearly new. This is something you can never do with a plastic board.
